Named after the Yemeni city of Mocha, it was invented by Italian engineer Alfonso Bialetti in 1933 and quickly became one of the staples of coffee culture.

The original Moka Express was voted the fifth best Italian industrial design of the twentieth century and has become a design icon displayed in museums such as the New York Museum of Modern Art and the Science Museum in London, where Bialetti’s original blueprints can be found.
